Taped confession played in Marrero murder trial

By Joe Darby - (05-19-02)

Prince Franklin, 20, said he was robbed of more than $1,000 by Deena Wilty, 36, and two other people at the Budget Motel in March 2001. The night of May 6, 2001, Franklin unexpectedly encountered Wilty in the parking lot of the Villa D’Ames apartment complex in Marrero. Franklin said, “I had a gun, so I just went up and shot her.” Chris Cox served as one of the prosecutors who called to the stand two witness who lived at the apartment complex; one said she saw Franklin shoot Wilty. Franklin was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Wilty.
