Fugitive convicted in cocaine case

West Bank - (07-17-02)

Ken McCoy, 34, was convicted of possession of more than 100 grams of cocaine and is facing up to 60 years in prison if he is caught. McCoy fled during the 20-minute recess. According to Prosecutor Chris Cox, the state law allows prosecutors to try someone in absentia if the defendant was present for the beginning of a trial. The trial proceeded the next day, but sentencing could not be carried out until McCoy was caught.
